Thread Wrapping Machine

20th June 2012

Design products and Design Interactions - two courses at the Royal College of Art opted to have their final degree show down in Battersea at the Testbed building. Reminiscent of Milan or Eindhoven, the exhibition mixing the two disciplines together was by far one of the highlights of the graduation show trail.

On entering the show you are met by Anton Alvarez's Thread Wrapping Machine. Busy wrapping threads around different pieces of wood and objects - the results are unique pieces of furniture of objects that are simply held together by thread.

Alvarez is another example of a designer exploring how materiality and craft can combine to make an entirely new process, the machine uses glue coated thread in a truly unique and playful manner.
