SODA

8th November 2012

One of the unexpected highlights of Dutch Design week was the new area Sectie C - a bit on the outskirts of town but worth the visit and the free Mini rides helped us there and back!

Mostly a showcase of the open studio's of the designers and design collectives who have taken over the disused spaces - it also included the RCA collective mmxii and SODA from the Pforzheim School of Design.

An acronym for 'Schmuck und Objekte der Alltagskultur' it was a showcase of considered design, intriguing materials and processes as well as an exciting array of emerging design talent.

One of the standout designers was Jayoung Baek who had explored furniture/objects that were inspired by lace, but made from metal, whilst Stefanie Ziegler's beautiful hanging lamp shades were made from sugar and when lit from above with LED lights gave off a beautiful glow.
