Kinetic Fashion

One of the more refined wearables designers Ying Gao always manages to keep a sophisticated and unique aesthetic to her designs.

Collaborating with robotics designer Simon Laroche she has designed two dresses that explore uncertainty in our modern day world.

Exploring ideas around our modern day pressures of time (lack of it) and constant technical innovation and that we live in an uncertain world where we live between a questionable present and an uncertain future her dresses create an uncertain dialogue.

The dresses themselves represent this transitory state of "always on-the-go out of fear of 'missing the boat', and believing that one is never in the right place at the right time."

Titled 'Incertitudes' the dresses are sound activated through environmental sound as well as the wearers voice. Using dressmaking pins they create a wave like movement on the surface reminiscent of an early Bart Hess creation, but are nevertheless beautiful and engaging.
