Artisinal hand work

5th October 2012

Not having ever been a huge fan of Dolce and Gabanna I was delighted with their SS13 collection. I love the richness of the colours and revived historical dress references, but I especially loved the intricate basket work interwoven into their garments.

Really celebrating traditional craft their garments were made using the traditional coffa basket technique that is from Sicily.

In a similar vein of looking to traditional native dress is the talented Fashion Ma graduate Stefanie Nieuwenhuyse who took inspiration from her native Holland to inspire the shapes of her head pieces for her latest collection.

Also working with unusual materials and techniques for fashion such as wood and cane, her accessories that were shown during London Fashion week as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout are incredible.
